Chiefland, Florida, and discover the "Gem of the Suwannee
Valley." Chiefland was incorporated in 1929 and has
traditionally been an agricultural community, with lots of
farms and ranches around the region.
The town of Chiefland is
only six miles east of Manatee Springs State Park. Manatee
Spring is a first-magnitude spring that flows directly into
the Suwannee River. Manatees can be seen swimming in the
spring all year-round. The park also features hardwood
wetlands and swampland along the river as well as sinkhole
ponds and caves. This is a great place to swim in the
spring's warm waters, watch the wildlife, or just enjoy a
hike.

Gilchrist County was created in 1925, making it the youngest county in Florida. It was named in honor of Albert W. Gilchrist, who served as the Governor of Florida from 1909 to 1913. The town of Trenton was named in recognition of the city of Trenton, Tennessee.
The city of Gainesville and the University of Florida are less than 30 miles away. Other institutions of higher education located within 60 miles of Trenton include Santa Fe Community College, Central Florida Community College and Saint Johns River Community College.
